What the therapy involves
The decision to undertake the therapy is a big one, as it will necessitate major rearrangements in your daily life and your household. We strongly recommend that before making a start you ensure the full support of those around you. Even concerned and loving relatives and friends, who are unfamiliar with the thinking behind the therapy, may urge you to follow more conventional methods of treatment. They are entitled to their views, but don’t let them weaken your resolve to get well in your chosen way.
The commitment required
The necessary commitment to the therapy is very high, both financially and in practical terms. The huge amounts of organic food needed by the patient are expensive; so are the required supplements and other medications. All food must be prepared to exacting standards; the juices must be freshly made; all water used must be either distilled or filtered by reverse osmosis. Ordinary personal toiletries and household cleansers have to be discarded and replaced by non-toxic alternatives.
The therapy works as a finely balanced whole, all of whose components are inter-related. Omitting any part, or trying to cut corners, destroys its ability to heal. It is therefore absolutely essential that both the nutritional and detoxification tasks of the therapy are carried out rigorously, if there is to be any chance of success. Patience and endurance are also required. It takes a long time for the body’s systems to deteriorate to the point where cancer can develop, so it is not surprising that the therapy must be pursued for two years or more for the body to repair the damage. This therapy is a 7-days-a-week, 14-hours-a-day task.
Help needed
During the therapy the patient will almost certainly experience so-called flare-ups or healing reactions, which are part of the body’s vigorous detoxification. They cause weakness, flu-like symptoms, loss of appetite and other unpleasant effects, yet they should be welcomed as sure signs that the therapy is doing its job. Besides, there are tried and tested methods of dealing with the effects, and once the reaction is over, the patient usually feels remarkably well and energetic. Reliable kitchen help is needed, for some 55-60 hours a week. Family and friends can be organised to help with these chores, or else volunteers or paid help must be found.

Important considerations
Whatever anyone says, no treatment works for everyone, every time. We believe that each patient should have as much information and support as possible, so they can make up their own mind about what treatment route they wish to follow.
When you have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, choosing the best strategy for fighting it can be a bewildering task. In most cases your trusted family physician only has knowledge of conventional treatments, and is either unaware of, or even hostile toward other treatments. But no matter how many opinions you receive on how to treat your disease, you should be the one to make the final decision and you must be comfortable with what you are going to do. Choose a treatment that makes the most sense to you.
Although we feel the Gerson Therapy® is a comprehensive treatment for disease, we don’t claim it will be effective for everyone.
