Some frequently asked questions
Q. Can I continue to work while doing the Gerson Therapy?
A. Not in the first few months whilst you are on the intensive treatment and you need all your time and energy to do the healing work. Depending on your progress, and on your doctor's advice, later on it might be possible to work part time, always assuming that you have help at home to prepare your juices and your food when you get back from work. Each case is individual - the main principle is that the therapy comes first.
Q. Is it all right to make all the juices in one go and drink them over the course of the day?
A. No! The reason why the juices must be made fresh each time is that the all-important enzymes deteriorate within 20 minutes, which diminishes the healing power of the juice.
Q. Why can't I wear make-up while I'm on the therapy?
A. One of the pillars of the Gerson Therapy is detoxification. All make-up contains chemicals and the skin absorbs whatever is put on it, so it stands to reason that we do not add to the toxic load we are trying to get rid of.
Q. What sort of coffee should I use for the enemas?
A. It must be organic, light to medium roast, and medium ground - NOT decaffinated or instant.
Q. How can I get in touch with other people who are on the Gerson Therapy?
A. One of the best ways is to get a subscription to our newsletter 'Coffee 'n' Carrots' and become a member of the Gerson Support Group. You will then be able to network and get support from other people who are doing the therapy.
Q. Once I'm on the therapy, do I continue taking prescribed medication?
A. That depends, as each case has to be individually assessed. The answer to this question will be based entirely on your own specific situation and needs.
Q. Is there a Gerson clinic in this country?
A. No. The Baja Nutri Care Clinic in Mexico is the only medical facility licensed by The Gerson Institute. The clinic offers Gerson Therapy care from the two physicians recognized as the most knowledgeable and devoted Gerson practitioners in the world. Dr. Melendez has 26 years experience and Dr. Bravo has been treating Gerson patients since 1986. Charlotte Gerson and Gerson Institute staff visit patients at Baja Nutri Care on a regular basis.

Q. Both the Champion juicer (with a press) and the Norwalk are expensive, why can’t I use a cheaper machine?
A. Dr Gerson was very specific about the type of juicer required by patients on the Gerson Therapy®. He found that a centrifugal juicer, which is the method of extraction used by most of the least expensive domestic juicers, was not acceptable. Spinning out the juice by centrifugal action produces an exchange of positive and negative electricity which kills the all-important oxidizing enzymes and renders the juice deficient. In addition, the fruits and vegetables are grated instead of being masticated and ground up, so the fibres and cell walls are not adequately broken down to allow the extraction of top quality juice.
Q. Why do I have to use the two-step process required with a press instead of an all-in-one juicer like the Green Power juicers?
A. Dr Gerson found that by grinding the material first, then mixing it all together, the acid in the apples helped the ground carrots release many of their minerals and enzymes. This does not happen in a one-process grinder/juicer, such as the Green Power Juicer. However, the Green Power Juicer is adequate for someone who is not a patient on the therapy and only drinks juices in order to promote and maintain good health.
