Introduction
The aim of the Gerson Support Group (GSG) is to advise, assist, inform and educate people wanting to undertake the Gerson Therapy®.
The Therapy is a non-toxic, non-invasive natural treatment, which
utilizes the body’s own healing ability in the management of chronic degenerative illness.
The Support Group was founded in 1993 by recovered patients and is the only body authorised to use the Gerson® name in the UK. Whilst we also help many patients throughout the rest of Europe and further afield, all our resources are based in the UK.
This website gives a brief introduction to the Gerson Therapy® and what it entails as well as outlining the help offered by the Gerson Support Group to patients undertaking the full therapy. The GSG does not offer any medical advice, treatment or diagnosis and patients are advised to seek qualified help before embarking on the therapy.
How the Gerson Therapy was Developed
Dr Max Gerson
Dr Max Gerson began to develop his dietary therapy in the late 1920s, originally as a treatment for his own debilitating migraines, before discovering that it also cured TB.

Realizing that his regime healed not a disease but the entire organism, he further developed it during thirty years of clinical practice, achieving extraordinary cures for terminal cancer and other serious degenerative diseases.
Today, seventy years after its inception, the Gerson Therapy® is used to treat chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, multiple sclerosis and heart and circulatory disease.
Max Gerson treated many hundreds of patients and continued to develop and refine his therapy up until his death in 1959, at the age of 78. His most famous patient was Dr. Albert Schweitzer, who was 75 years old when Gerson cured him of advanced diabetes. Schweitzer returned to his African hospital, won the Nobel prize, and worked past age 90. Schweitzer wrote “I see in Dr. Gerson one of the most eminent geniuses in the history of medicine.”

Why a Nutritional Approach?
It is rare to find cancer, arthritis, or other degenerative diseases in cultures considered ‘primitive’ by Western civilization. The fact that degenerative diseases only occur in these cultures when modern processed, refined foods full of additives are introduced, certainly suggests a link with diet. Dr. Gerson said: “Stay close to nature and its eternal laws will protect you.” He considered that degenerative diseases were caused by toxicity and degraded, deficient nutrition.
Despite decades of research and huge expenditure, there has been no victory in the war against cancer. Meanwhile its incidence is rising, even among children and young people. Available medical treatments for cancer, i.e. surgery, radio- and chemotherapy and drugs do not solve the problem. They may bring temporary relief, but lasting cures are still rare, with recurrences being the rule rather than the exception. Also, the side effects of chemotherapy, and often of radiotherapy, can affect the patient’s remaining quality of life. Therefore it is not surprising that more and more people, affected by cancer and other degenerative diseases, are showing interest in complementary or alternative treatments.
